Alcla incorporates Sexual Rehabilitation Therapy

Alcla has included Sexual Rehabilitation within its Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program, thus becoming one of the first rehabilitation institutions that addresses this issue in hospitalized patients, together and as a complement to the other rehabilitation modules it offers.

The main consequences after a motor pathology, such as a stroke or spinal cord injury, include low self-esteem and low acceptance of body image. This can lead to complications within the sexual life of the patient.

The main goal of the Program is to facilitate the social reintegration of the patient within the scope ofhis sexual life, which improves both self-esteem and family and social bonds. To achieve this, the therapist works with the patient through clinical intervention, including adapted sexual education andan approach to physical aspects to promote the readaptation of the patient to his new body schema.

At first, the patient is approached individually and then a family member can be incorporated, according to the needs of each case. Given the privacy of sexuality, we work with a respectful and non-judgemental approach, according to the values and beliefs of the patient and his family.
